In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the Animal Shelter is a unique Facility in Australia dedicated to preserving the continent's endangered wildlife — kangaroos, koalas, possums, Tasmanian devils, and emus, all decimated by the Death Stranding event.
Run by three staff members (Lauren, Martin, and Iain), the shelter relies on Sam reconnecting it to the Chiral Network and delivering rescued animals to its nature reserve.
The Animal Shelter is unlocked at Rainbow Valley during Order 15: Deliver Test Subject Kangaroo to Animal Shelter in Episode 4, introduced by Rainy. Its exact location is marked on MapMaster's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach interactive maps.
Once the Animal Shelter is unlocked, wild animals can be captured anywhere across Australia.
Scan the environment with the Odradek to highlight nearby animals with a blue outline, then knock them unconscious using any non-lethal weapon. Approach the docile animal to automatically stuff it into an Animal Carrier.
Animals count as fragile cargo — handle carefully during transport, as drops or rough terrain can injure them before delivery. Once captured, deliver the animal directly to the Animal Shelter, or Entrust it to another nearby porter and visit the shelter afterward to confirm the delivery.
Like all Facilities, the Animal Shelter has a five-star connection system, increasing with every animal delivered:
Like all Facilities in Death Stranding 2, the Animal Shelter and its connection levels remain fully accessible after the main story concludes, during the post-game Episode 17.
Players can continue capturing and delivering animals at their own pace without risk of missing the associated trophies.
